Austin Eguavoen didn’t quit role with Super Eagles

Austin Eguavoen did not quit his role with Super Eagles as he remains the technical director.

Austin Eguavoen stepped in as the interim manager of the Nigeria’s Super Eagles for the September AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda in the just concluded international break as the team awaits the beginning of the Bruno Labbadia era.

Super Eagles technical director Austin Eguavoen was confirmed the interim manager ahead of the international break games and treated the fans to an enjoyable spectacle in the two games, which produced a win and an unlucky stalemate.

“My mandate is for two games and it ends today. I appreciate my players and the NFF leadership. ”Eguavoen said at the announcement of the completion of his assignment.

While stories have been making round that the former Super Eagles right-back quits his role with the team, it is worth noting that he still retains his role as the technical director, and he was never named the coach on a permanent basis.

“It’s quite unfortunate that people just trigger something that is not correct. And the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories,” Eguavoen continued.

While Austin Eguavoen has completed his temporary assignment as the interim manager, he could yet find himself in the hot seat should Bruno Labbadia not resume before the October international break, when the team will take on Libya in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers double-header.
